Skinny Dippin' And Other Fun
The Toronto trumpeter came here from New Orleans, plays regularly in the Distillery District, and was described by late horn great Doc Cheatham as delivering "the best trumpet playing I have ever heard." Clark's good here, with confident, fault-free technique and great tone on 14 short tunes with pianist Peter Hill, drums Chris Lamont and, unusually, B3 organist Denis Keldie. The pop-heavy repertoire ranges from Nawlins pieces like "Java" to "The Girl From Ipanema," jazz classics like "Sidewinder" to "Theme From Spiderman." Top track: The ebullient Louisiana blast "Mama Inez."
Geoff Chapmann, Toronto Star, 5/12/2007

Without over simplifying
or being to cliche', Kevin Clark's Jazz Kithchen combines the two
best things and two best reasons to visit New Orleans - good food
and great music. Jazz has been called the the truly original American
artform. Cooking, particularly in the South, is also an artform and
a worls unto it's own self. Kevin has mastered both and put the two
things he likes to do best together. Lucky us

This album shows the range and skill of Trumpeter
Kevin Clark and pianist Tom McDermott. Chops get plenty of breathing
room in this feel-good album of acoustic duets, whether it's a luxurious
stroll through "Louisiana," or a skittering version of
"Chinatown, My Chinatown." - Scott Jordan, Gambit weekly,
